horst deuter

There was no market for Horst Deuter’s realistic paintings in the middle of the last century. Instead, he found an artistic home in the still young medium of television. Here he was able to realize his idea of a pictorial language that was colorful, aggressive and loud.
As director of TV shows that have become legendary today, such as „Disco,“ „Starparade,“ „Baden-Baden Roulette“ and „Bio’s Bahnhof,“ he had success. Through the encounter with the pop-art artist Mel Ramos he finds his way back to painting.
Before he began studying art and painting in New York, he bought a pilot’s license in 1978 and flew goods and people in Africa for St. Lucia Airways Back in the USA, he found in Pop Art the „ready mades“, the finished products of the consumer and media society as an ironic-playful design possibility. A tension between „real art“ and canned soup design. In his studio in New Jersey he paints glamour covers and draws illustrations for SKYLER magazine.
Comics, old master paintings, advertising, movies, pin up, TV shows, celebrities, refrigerators and also lappishly shameless, voyeuristic-erotic fantasies, – the trivial culture becomes the source material.
